  Terry Verulum.

I was eventually allowed to leave the hospital. I was transferred to HMS Victory the Portsmouth Naval base. I met Terry in 1960 as a result of Barry's landlord introducing us in a bar called The Criterion which was at the time Portsmouth's main gay bar.

At this time I was beginning to come to terms with my sexuality. I finished my relationship with Barry. I was delighted to find that there were so many other people who shared my interest. I wanted to explore rather than settle with one person and so Terry a Leading Chef in RN barracks HMS Collingwood and after a wild afternoon at a friends flat he became my next partner and we stayed together for a few months.

Terry was great fun to be with socially and an adventurous versatile partner in bed so I had a wonderful relationship with Terry for a few months.

Circumstances in the Navy were less than fair to us. We were both unhappy with service life and wanted to leave the Navy but that was an expensive option and neither of us could afford to purchase our freedom.

When Terry got his discharge from the Navy he went to Southampton where he managed a pet shop for a couple of years. He then committed suicide. I have no idea what was the reason though if his psycological behaviour was anything to go on he was an insecure and uptight person.
