I went to stay with him in Berlin
for 3 weeeks in Sept 1974 and had the best holiday of
my life up to that point.
I met Norbert in London
when he came over from Berlin for a summer holiday. Within
two days Norbert told me that he had fallen completely
in love with me and we spent most of his three week holiday
together.
He was able to speak
fairly good English and I greatly enjoyed the time we
spent together exploring London. I was manager of the
Island Records shop in the famous Kings Road, Chelsea
at this time so was able to adjust my working day to accommodate
some sightseeing.
I was very sad when
Norbert had to leave London at the end of his holiday.
We promised to write to each other but I didn't hold out
a lot of hope. Its been my experience that people often
say things when they are on holiday that they have no
intention of fulfilling once they arrived back on their
own familiar territory. If I'd learned anything over the
last few years it was that I couldn't really trust anyone.
Unfortunately he does
not write or read in English so when we communicated over
the years I had to learn to write in German. Norbert gave
me this pic to remind me of him when he returned to Berlin.
He wrote on the back of it:
