Jetboating on the Shotover River.

Wednesday 10th January.
When I woke up I looked out from my bedroom window over the lake towards the hills and found that it was a little brighter than it had been yesterday. After breakfast I drove into Queenstown and arrived at the Shotover office at the appointed time of 0955. The bus for the Jet boat left just after ten and we made the short drive to the base station

Once there we immediately put on long black semi waterproof cloaks and then life jackets on top.

Once into the Jet boat we were quickly on our way first we built a little speed and did a 360º turn which covered everyone with a fine spray of water.

Our pilot then stopped to ask how everyone felt.

Just as we were ready to move forward another boat approached in a flurry of spray

The river is quite narrow here and the pilot took us close to the cliffs on either side

This used to be gold mining country and much of the machinery has been abandoned in or on the river

Here is an old engine rusting away on the rocks the

fearing a crash into the rocks at any moment had been exhirarating

We returned to base laughing and happy skimming the surface of the lake

We dispensed with our cloaks and lifejackets and proceeded up to the refreshment area.

I took some shots from here as the jetboats palyed on the water

Yes! That's me in the front on the left.

We dried ourselves I looked around the souvenir shop and café whilst waiting for everyone to get themselves together and ready for the return journey.
