Sunday Sutherland was at HMS Ganges,the Royal Naval training school in Ipswich Suffolk with me. His family owned the fish and chip shop in Grantown on Spey. We had spent the last 14 hours on thetrain travelling from Ipswich down to London and then up through Edinburgh to Grantown-on-Spey.

In those days the trains went right into Grantown-on-Spey railway station. After the Beeching cuts which mutilated the railway system in this country t that no longer happens.

It was with Sandy and his family that I stayed on my first Naval leave to Grantown. This two-week period did nothing to enhance our friendship.
