We became great friends and spent a lot of time together. Here we were out one evening in one of the local Bars drinking some beer and rum and Coca-Cola. However when I told him that I was in hospital for being gay he was disappointed but very supportive. I found that surprising in a servicemen and especially a soldier. Homophobic attitudes were much more common then than they are now.
