I'd met John in a bar in Earls Court a few weeks earlier. We became friends and I often went to his lodging in Islington. However his landlord decided to sell the flat and John had to find alternative accommodation.

Rather than spend a lot of time flat hunting I suggested that since we were getting along so well together he might like come here and share my single bed. He did and we shared that small bed for the next couple of years.

John was a very stabilizing influence on my life and we lived together for five mainly happy years.
